Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking is one of the best, popular, and easiest trekking journeys which is also popularly known as Annapurna Sunrise Trekking or Annapurna Panorama Trekking passing through the beautiful ethnic villages of Gurung and Magar Communities as well as Rhododendron forests. Poonhill Trekking offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, and Manaslu mountain ranges. The trek can be done within 7 days. Trekkers will have a great time in this region or trekking travels through rhododendron forests, terraced slopes, fields, and other different vegetation. We will start our journey from Nayapul, about 2 hours travel by bus from Pokhara and finishing in Ghandruk. We reached Pokhara either by 25 minutes to 30 minutes of flight from the domestic airport in Kathmandu or by following the bus through Prithivi Highway for 5-6 hours. Leaving Nayapul, we will follow the dirt trail along with a step-stone road through the Tikhedhunga settlement. We will cross Ghorepani and reach the Poonhill followed by dense forests and blooming rhododendron. Poonill offers the beautiful scenery of different mountain ranges. Ghandurk provides the best facilities for homestay and we will learn many things about the local culture of Gurung and Magar ethnics. Poonhill trekking can be taken throughout the year but May is considered the best month for Poonhill hike.

Best Seasons to Trek to Poonhill

The best season for the Poonhill trekking is May. You’ll experience the full vibrant rhododendron blooms.
Spring Season (March-May):  is the best season for trekking. We’ll experience the mild weather and full of blushing and blooming rhododendron forests.

Autumn (September-November): We’ll experience clear and comfortable weather and temperature which offers beautiful and stunning views of different mountain ranges.
Trekking to Poon Hill throughout the Year

Winter and summer: Trekking to Poon Hill can be done year-round, but conditions vary. Winter can be cold, while summer brings heat and occasional rain.

Monsoon (June to August): Not recommended for trekking. Visibility of the mountains is poor, and trails can be slippery and challenging. However, if you're an experienced trekker and prepared for rain, you can still consider trekking during this season.

Itinerary Outline:

Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara
Day 2: Pokhara to Nayapul (Drive) to Tikhedhunga (Trek)
Day 3: Tikheedhunga to Ghorepani

Details Itineray

Day 1: Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara
Drive by 5-6 hours or by Flight 25-30 minutes
Accommodation: Hotel
After having breakfast, if we start our journey by bus the road starts from Kathmandu valley way down to joins the Trishuli River below. We see the views of rivers, snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, and many other things. If we start our journey by flight we’ll go to the domestic airport of Kathmandu. Followed by a flight, and after 25 minutes we’ll reach Pokhara Airport. We’ll enjoy the flight through different scenes. We reached Pokhara had lunch and enjoyed the lake city of Pokhara. We’ll be checking into the hotel, exploring the beautiful city, and enjoying it there.

Day 2: Pokhara to Nayapul (Drive) to Tikhedhunga (Trek)
After having breakfast at Pokhara, we’ll start our journey from Pokhara to Nayapul either by bus, jeep, or car. We will cross the beautiful Lumle Village to Nayapul (1050m). From Nayapul, we’ll start our hiking. We will cover the about 42 km distance from Pokhara to reach the Tikhedhunga. It takes approximately 4-5 hours of hike to reach there. Following the Modi River, we will walk past a forest of blooming and blushing rhododendron forests and cross a small stream. We will cross Biorethanti after half of the trek and arrive at Tikhedhunga. We’ll stay there at Tikhedhunga.

Day 3: Tikheedhunga to Ghorepani
After having breakfast, we’ll start our hiking to reach the Ghorepani. A steep trek for about 2 hrs will take us to Ulleri (2070m). We will cross the Magar village of Banthanti from where we can get spectacular views of Machhapuchhre Mountain (6997m), Hiunchuli Mountain (6441m), and Annapurna South Mountain (7219m).  We will cross the small river and climb to Nangethanti. We will arrive at Ghorepani from where we can get soaring views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, and other mountains.

Day 4: Ghorepani to Poonhill to Tadapani
Starting our hiking to Poonhill (3210m) for about an hour of climb to watch the sunrise and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the mountains and sunrise. Poonhill is popular for the best sunrise view in Pokhara. We will rise very early and reach the base of Poonhill. We can get sunrise view over Dhaulagiri Mountain (8167m), Annapurna I Mountain (8091m), Annapurna II Mountain (7937m), Annapurna III Mountain (7855m), Annapurna IV Mountain (7525m), Annapurna South Mountain (729m), Nilgiri Mountain (6940m), Tukuche Mountain (6920m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Lamjung Himal (6931m) and other mountains. We’ll return to the hotel in Ghorepani for breakfast and then take the descending trail to Tadapani village from where we can get views of different mountain ranges.

Day 5: Tadapani to Ghandruk
3hrs of easy walks through a forest of oak, rhododendrons, and other alpine flowers will take us to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is the large Gurung village. We can get striking views of Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna III, Hiunchuli, and other Mountains from the viewpoint of Ghandruk. Homestay in Ghandruk is a pleasant experience. We will be welcomed by the locals with Khada and traditional dance will be performed in the evening in our honor.
 
Day 6: Ghandruk to Nayapul to Pokhara (Drive)

Enjoying the final breakfast at Ghandruk, we’ll start our descending journey to reach Nayapul by hiking passing through villages, forests, and scenic routes with views of different mountain ranges like Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail, etc. We’ll cross the forest of blooming rhododendrons and reach Birenthetd Following the river we’ll reach Nayapul where we can take vehicles back to Pokhara. Then enjoy the Pokhara once again at the lake and Mountain Range.

Day 7: Pokhara to Kathmandu (Drive)
After having breakfast, we’ll back to Kathmandu by bus or direct from the flight.
